Energy Globe launched UN World Environment Day 2010 in Rwanda.

The Energy Globe World Awards in the Plenary Hall of the European Parliament have been absolute highlights for the Energy Globe at the European level. Now the world’s most prominent environmental award is on the threshold of a global milestone: 
On June 3, 2010 the Energy Globe Award and its international Energy Globe TV Gala launched this year’s UN World Environment Day in Rwanda under the auspices of UNEP.          

UN World Environment Day is the world’s largest environmental campaign, with participation by 150 nations. This global aspect is also underscored by the Energy Globe projects submitted from 105 nations; they show how to reasonably and efficiently use our resources in harmony with the motto of this year’s World Environment Day: Many species. One planet. One future. 

From all continents, high-ranking representatives and the nominees for Energy Globe awards traveled to Rwanda to represent nations such as USA, Taiwan, Sweden, Norway, Bangladesh, Nepal, Micronesia, Madagascar, Pakistan, India, Argentina, Morocco, Germany, Slovenia and Austria.

In 13 & 40 minutes documentary broadcasts worldwide, the Gala was moderated by the charming and internationally known ambassador of the Energy Globe, Désirée Nosbusch. The broadcast is featuring projects, the winners, the nation of Rwanda, and the activities of the UN to protect the environment and promote World Environment Day. 

World Environment Day was initiated in 1972 by the UN and is held each year on June 5 in a different host nation. Rwanda was selected for 2010 because the east African nation sets an international example regarding environment.

Eingebettet im Dreiländereck Österreich, Italien, Slowenien, liegt der Wörthersee. Er hat alles und bietet alles – und das zu allen 4 Jahreszeiten. Sanfte Natur, tolle Events, Ruhe und Erholung, aber auch südliches Temperament und pulsierendes Nachtleben.  

Der Wörthersee ist das Herz der Region, 17km lang, bis zu 27 Grad warm und umgeben von malerischen und mondänen Orten. Romantik und pralles Leben, Tradition und Hollywood-Flair.

Der unvergleichliche Charme der Region lockte schon immer illustre Gäste an. Johannes Brahms und Gustav Mahler schrieben, inspiriert vom See, unsterbliche Musik an diesem Ort. Die Wirtschaftswunderjahre und die Filmbranche machten den Wörthersee zur Riviera Österreichs. 

Hauptdarsteller Wörthersee: Rund 100 Filme wurden hier bereits gedreht. 

Bing Crosby und Omar Sharif, Hans Moser und Rudi Carell, Alain Delon und Ingrid Bergmann, Udo Jürgens und Ottfried Fischer. Sie alle haben eines gemeinsam: Sie filmten und filmen am Wörthersee. Seit über 60 Jahren fungiert Österreichs bekanntester See in mehr als 100 Streifen nicht nur als Kulisse, sondern auch als Hauptdarsteller. Hier wird Filmgeschichte geschrieben. 

Ob die Supernasen mit Thomas Gottschalk und Mike Krüger, Zärtliche Chaoten mit Helmut Fischer oder Tierärztin Christine mit Uschi Glas – sie alle spielten am und manchmal auch auf und im Wörthersee. So drehte hier ein internationales Staraufgebot um Ingrid Bergmann, Omar Sharif, Alain Delon und Shirley MacLaine im Jahr 1964 „Der gelbe Rolls-Royce“.  

Anfang der 90er Jahre stand das "Schloss am Wörthersee" im Mittelpunkt von drei Staffeln der bekannten Fernsehserie mit insgesamt 34 Folgen, die insbesondere Roy Black ein grandioses Comeback bescherten. Auch die jüngste Produktion „Der Arzt vom Wörthersee“, deren Folgen im Jahr 2007 ausgestrahlt wurden, reiht sich in diese unterhaltsame Serie nahtlos ein. 

Die Wörthersee Region ist ein aufregender, bunter Hotspot der Lebensfreude. Die Grundlagen des unbeschreiblichen Reizes dieses paradiesischen Landstrichs sind ihre intakte Umwelt und ihre einzigartige Naturschönheit.

Tirol - Land des Wassers

Das „Land im Gebirge“ kann zu Recht auch als „Land des Wassers“ bezeichnet werden. Tirol verfügt über Wasser- und Trinkwasservorkommen gewaltigen Ausmaßes und höchster Qualität. Weit mehr als 10.000 Quellen entspringen auf heimischem Boden. 

Sein Wasservorkommen ist vielfältig. In Form von idyllischen Bergseen, sprudelnden Quellen, glasklaren Bächen oder Wasserfällen prägt das kostbare Naturgut in wesentlichem Ausmaß Tirols unvergleichliches Erscheinungsbild. Die vorhandene Wassermenge ist beeindruckend. Der heimische Vorrat deckt den jährlichen Trink- und Nutzwasserbedarf von 60 Millionen Kubikmetern und sorgt ganz nebenbei noch für einen erheblichen Wasserüberschuss. In den Tiroler Alpen sind 2,5 Milliarden Kubikmeter Wasser gespeichert. 

Wasser stellt eines der wichtigsten Elemente des Lebens dar. Es wird nicht zuletzt wegen der weltweit ungleichen Verteilung auch als „flüssiges Gold des dritten Jahrtausends“ bezeichnet. Tirol ist ein Land, in dem Wasserknappheit keine Rolle spielt.  

Im Laufe seines Lebens nimmt der Mensch zwischen 55.000 und 65.000 Liter Wasser zu sich. Die Qualität des Trinkwassers ist daher entscheidend. Als „natürliches Mineralwasser“ bezeichnen Fachleute das Innsbrucker Wasser, das zu 99% aus Quellwasser besteht. Bis zu 20 Jahre lagert es im Berg, wird dort gereinigt, mit Mineralstoffen angereichert – um dann als Trinkwasser in reinster und natürlichster Form aus jedem Wasserhahn zu sprudeln.   

Auch das Abwasser wird in Tirol genützt. Dazu als Beispiel das Wasserkraftwerk in Zirl – der Power Blobb, der das geklärte Abwasser durch Turbinen zur Stromerzeugung schleust.   

Im Zillertal gibt es Wasser, soweit das Auge reicht. 80 Gletscher befinden sich im Naturpark Zillertaler Alpen, der bekannteste ist der Hintertuxer Gletscher. Er ist ca. 1000 Jahre alt, das Eis an seiner tiefsten Stelle 100 bis 120 Meter tief und am Gletscher liegen rund 190 Millionen Kubikmeter Eis! 

Im Stubaital kann man Wasser in vielen Formen beobachten und entdecken. Das Wasser hat über Jahrtausende dieses Tal geformt: Ob als Fluss mit seiner manchmal vernichtenden Erosionskraft, als eiszeitlicher Riesengletscher, als katastrophale Mure oder als alles mitreißende Lawine – es war immer das Wasser in seinen verschiedenen Erscheinungsformen, das in eine tektonische Felsaufwölbung dieses Tal gekerbt hat.  

Der Quellenweg hinauf nach Maria Waldrast im Wipptal ist gesäumt von Brunnen und Quellen. Der Klosterbrunnen ist ein besonderer Brunnen, hier fließt das Wasser rechts drehend ab und diesem Wasser wird eine heilende Wirkung nachgesagt.  

Von Trinkwasser bis zum Genießen in der freien Natur - Wasser gehört ebenso zu Tirol wie die unvergleichlichen Alpen.

Sustainability in Tourism. Tirol sets new standards.

More and more companies operating in the tourism sector in Tirol are focusing on ecology. Renewable energy, solar energy and low-energy houses are on the rise.   

The Biohotel Crystal in Obergurgl is the first hotel in Austria which is heated 100 percent by renewable energy. The 120-room hotel, which is located 2000m above sea-level, manages to run completely with neither oil nor gas. The hotel is equipped with a heat pump and a 300 m² solar energy panel. In addition, 67 ground-source heat pumps extract enough energy to power the entire hotel and wellness area. 

The Mountain Restaurant Sunnalm in the skiing region of Rifflsee in Pitztal is currently the world’s highest energy passive house in the Alps.  Located 2,300m above sea level, its structure is mainly made out of wood and glass. Solar- and ground floor pumping techniques mean there’s no need for fossil fuels. The restaurant is open 135 days in winter and 100 days in summer and the system saves up to 37,000 liters fuel each year. In order to make the use of geo-thermal energy possible, seven deep-drilling systems are operated ot a depth of 120m. 

Tyrolean Lodges set an example. 

Austria’s biggest accommodation facility, the Austrian Alpine Association tries set an example with its lodges in showing how a business can protect the environment while carefully making use of its resources. The Franz-Senn-Cottage in the Stubaital was built at the end of the 19th century and currently is the most comfortable and modern high-altitude lodge in the Alpine region. The lodge has its own generating plant, hybrid heating system (electricity, oil and pyrolysis) as well as a partly biological sewage plant. With these facilities, the Franz-Senn-Lodge has set new standards when it comes to the sustainable use of resources.   

The world’s first eco ski-lift 

New ski lifts are being built every year. In almost every ski region at least one new lift is being constructed to help improve capacity flow. However, until now no one had ever built an eco-lift. The new T-bar lift “Sun Lift” in the Ski World Wilder Kaiser – Brixental is powered by solar panels,which generate around 15 kW per hour. That adds up to about 12,000 kW over a whole winter.  
An environmental idea that will hopefully inspire many more similar projects.
